About Us

Greene Ice Cream is owned by Nicholas Morgenstern, former pastry chef of Gramercy Tavern and current owner/chef of The General Greene. All ice cream is concocted on site at The General Greene, in Morgenstern’s ice cream laboratory.

Our Ice Cream

Greene Ice Cream is handmade in small batches, and each flavor has its own unique recipe. We serve up silky scoops of Philadelphia-style (eggless) ice cream in a wide range of addictive flavors, based on Morgenstern's frozen treat philosophy: keep the ice cream base simple so that each flavor shines.

Our Cart

Like our ice cream, The Greene Ice Cream’s cart is made from scratch and completely homegrown, using only the freshest local talent and tools in Brooklyn. Designed by Morgenstern, rolling on wheels from Motor Grrl, balanced on an axle by Nexton Designs, and handcrafted at Dexter Welding, this cart is the ultimate representation of Brooklyn’s DIY ethic.

Six rotating flavors are available everyday from the cart, chosen from a list that ranges from the standard (vanilla, chocolate) to the unexpected (salted caramel pretzel, bourbon raisin) to the hardcore (peanut butter bacon banana, butterscotch black pepper). Fort Greene’s favorite flavor seems to be salted caramel pretzel, which is always available at the cart, as its absence from the rotation has been known to incite anger.
